Physician Practice Quality Initiative
CMS’ Physician Quality Reporting Initiative establishes a financial incentive for eligible professionals to participate in a voluntary quality reporting program. Eligible professionals who successfully report a designated set of quality measures on claims for dates of service from July 1 to December 31, 2007, may earn a bonus payment, subject to a cap, of 1.5% of total allowed charges for covered Medicare physician fee schedule services.
CMS has posted detailed specifications for the 74 measures included in the 2007 PQRI.
For complete details, visit the PQRI website at www.cms.hhs.gov/pqriDOQ-IT
Now is the time to get ready for public reporting and pay for performance.
IFMC’s Doctor’s Office Quality - Information Technology project is designed to improve outcomes for patients by promoting adoption of health information technology and electronic health record systems.
Preventive Care
As Iowa’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, IFMC is assisting physicians in selecting and utilizing information technology to improve health care quality and efficiency.
Breast cancer affects one in eight American women, diabetes and its complications kill over 150,000 Americans each year, and pneumonia and influenza are the seventh leading causes of death in the United States. Screening for breast cancer, diabetes management, and preventive measures for pneumonia and influenza have been shown to save lives; however, studies show that these services are underutilized.
As Iowa’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, IFMC is focused on increasing breast cancer screening, chronic disease management for diabetes and increasing pneumonia and influenza vaccination rates in the outpatient setting.
