Capturing and Saving Screenshot

The following are the steps in creating a snapshot of your monitor screen and sending it as an attachment for the purpose of reporting an MCMP-PAT issue.

WARNING!
When sending screenshots, make sure that no confidential patient information is included.  Modify the image using an image editing tool like MS Paint and erase or cover the area showing confidential patient information.

The whole process is the same as copying and pasting text or image in a word processor.  The difference is, instead of using Ctrl+C or selecting Edit Copy from a menu to capture the image, the Print Screen button is used.

1. Perform this operation only when the screen currently displays the error message or the situation that you have questions on.

2. Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard.  This will copy an image of your screen into the clipboard.  A clipboard is a temporary storage area in Windows used for storing various types of data (for example, text, graphics, sound, and video).

3. Open a word processor like MS Word or Wordpad.  Be careful no not press the Print Screen button again at this time, otherwise the information in the clipboard will be overwritten.

4. In the word processor, select Edit Paste.  The keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+V.  An image containing the error message will then be pasted on to the document.

5. In the same document, write more information to describe the error.  It is especially helpful if the activities peformed just prior to the occurance of the error is documented.  Again make sure that no confidential patient information is visible in the screenshot.

6. Save the document.

7. Send it as an e-mail attachment.
