Installing MCMP-PAT

Before installing MCMP-PAT make sure that the target PC has met the minimum hardware and software requirements.  The MCMP-PAT tool has to be downloaded from the MCMP forum so an active forum account is required.  Click here to register for the forum if you have not done it yet.

Requirements
For the PAT tool to be installed and used successfully, the user must have:
  • rights to install software on the PC
  • read and write permissions to the folder where MCMP-PAT is installed
  • read and write permissions to the folder where the database is located

Process
Below is a flowchart describing the process of installing MCMP-PAT.  In the flowchart, the diamond shape shows a decision on whether to install .NET 1.1 and then MCMP-PAT or just MCMP-PAT (step 14).  The user does not have to make this decision, the installer performs this task.  The flowchart simply shows that there can be two paths to the installation process.

Steps in downloading and installing MCMP-PAT

1. Log On to the MCMP forum and view the list of topics.  Click on the topic "Download MCMP-PAT Files".

2. Click the Download link of the MCMP-PAT Setup Files.

3. A File Download dialog box will be shown.  Depending on your browser type and browser version, you may see a dialog box that is a little different than what is shown below.  In the dialog box , click the Save button.

4. In the Save As dialog box, save the file on the desktop.  The file can be saved in other locations as well.

5. Wait until the the browser is done downloading the whole file.  Once the file is fully downloaded, two things can happen: either the File Download dialog box will stay open or it will close without confirmation.  This depends on your browser settings.

5-a. If the dialog box is still shown, click on Run.

Depending on your security settings you may get a Security Warning dialog box.  If this happens, click on Run.

5-b. If the dialog box automatically closes after downloading the file, go to your Desktop or to the folder where you saved the file and double click on the file MCMP-PAT_Setup.exe.

6. Next, a WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box will appear.  Change the location specified in the Unzip to folder field if you want to extract the files somewhere else.  Otherwise, leave the default value and click the Unzip button.  After a successful extraction, a dialog box will appear showing the number of files unzipped.  Click the OK button to close the message box.  In the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box click Close.

7. Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder where the files were extracted or unzipped.  Double-click the file Setup.exe.

Notes
  • If you get a message like the one below, you may have double-clicked on the file PATSetup.msi instead of Setup.exe.  If this happens, select No and double-click on Setup.exe.

  • Depending on your PC configuration, you may only see the file Setup without the .exe extension.

8. In the first dialog box click on OK.

9. If .NET 1.1 is not installed on your PC, the message box below will appear confirming whether to install .NET 1.1.  Otherwise, the installer will skip this step and will start to install MCMP-PAT.  If the message box below is what you see, click on Yes, else go to step 14.

10. Wait for the next step to finish.

11. In the License Agreement screen, select I Agree and click on Install to continue.

12. Wait until the next step is done.  On slow computers, sometimes it may seem that installation is stuck.  This is OK since it takes a few minutes for the installer to extract and copy files.

13. Once the installation is complete, a dialog box will be displayed.  Click the OK button to close.

14. The MCMP-PAT installation will start after the .NET 1.1 framework has been installed.  If .NET 1.1 is already on the target PC, the installation will start from this step.  After the window below shows up, wait until it has loaded the Setup Wizard.

NOTE
At this time, it may take a few seconds for the next installation to start even on fast computers.  Give the installer some time to initialize and do not try to run Setup.exe again.

15. In the Welcome screen, click the Next button.

16. In the next screen select the installation folder or leave it as is to accept the default location.  If there are other users in the machine who will be using MCMP-PAT, select the Everyone button.  Click Next to continue.

17. Wait until the installation is done.

18. Click the Close button to finish the installation.

19. A message box with an OK button will then pop up.  Click the OK button.

20. MCMP-PAT may now be used.  It can be accessed from the start menu or from the MCMP-PAT icon on the Desktop.

If you are experiencing problems using MCMP-PAT contact your QIO.  For Windows 98 users, the next step is to install the Service Pack for .NET 1.1.  For users of Windows with later versions this step is optional.
