Backup

The Backup feature creates a copy of the database that is currently in use.  A backup file can be created on a local drive or on a shared network drive.  It is recommended to create a backup of the database as often as possible to protect from accidental data loss.  Use the Restore File feature to create a new MCMP-PAT database from a backup file.  To set the default backup location, set it under the Options  Preferences menu.  To create a backup file, follow these steps:

1. Select File Backup from the menu.

Backup Dialog Box

2. In the Backup Database dialog box, select the location for the backup file or accept the default.  The default name of the backup file is in this format: *-MMDDYY-HHmm.mbak;  Where * is name of the original file,  MM is a 2-digit month,  DD is a 2-digit day, YY is a 2-digit year, HH is the current hour and mm is the current minute.  To backup to a different location, click the Browse button  to open the Select Folder dialog box and select the new target folder location.  Click OK to begin the backup process.

3. If the procedure is complete and errors were not encountered, the user will see a message (see below).  After clicking the OK button, this message and the Backup Database dialog box will be closed.

If the target backup filename already exists, it may be overwritten.  A message box (below) will appear if an attempt is made to use a filename that already exists in the target folder.  Select "Yes" from the confirmation dialog box to overwrite the existing file.

Reminder:
  • Remember the location of the most recent backup file.  If there is a need to restore the previous database, the most recent should be selected.
